Decision details

Stowting CEP School

Decision Maker: Ward Member for North Downs West (2)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Stowting School MUGA (multi use games area) – the school has out grown the small playground.  For safety of all year groups, children are not allowed to run around or kick balls etc.  The school is urgently seeking to improve the play and sports facilities by creating a MUGA.

Decision:

To provide funding of £500 to the above project.

Reason for decision:

The School urgently need to improve outdoor play and sports facilities but

have limited funds to create what many other schools take for granted,

which is adequate playground space and facilities such as a Multi-Use

Games Area. The school have outgrown the small playground. There is a large

field; however, this is for dry weather only. Most of the year, 105 children

squeeze onto the playground and are unable to play football or tag, or

other exuberant games due to safety. Additionally, the narrow playground

space precludes the teaching of sports such as Hockey, Netball, Tennis,

Basketball etc. The rural location, unlike urban schools, means pupils cannot

walk to use other local facilities as none are in close proximity. Coach hire

is prohibitively expensive. As such, the children suffer from rural

deprivation.
