International Roma Day –
International Roma Day is celebrated in April and it an opportunity to celebrate
the rich history and traditions of Roma people and also to raise awareness of the
historical and contemporary challenges effecting Roma people.
In conjunction with Folkestone Academy, we will organise a celebration for
pupils, teachers and parents. We will run educational workshops, invite positive
Roma role models and invite local musicians to play traditional Roma music.
The grant will be spent on refreshments, Roma band, decoration and other costs
associated with volunteers and participants.
To provide funding of £405 to the above project.
Reason for decision:
We have an experience where engaging and collaborating between the Roma community and majority is very low and then all community is standing many issues and misunderstanding. Many young Roma people are
leaving their secondary school without GCSE’s and also without any motivation to study the higher education.
We choose to collaborate with Folkestone Academy to support them and their students with families and help them gain new opportunities. Also our aim is to improve student’s school attendance and their results, so they can be prepared for their future life and achieve their dreams.
The agencies and services in Folkestone have not any connections with the Roma community and so we would like to be a bridge in between them.
